A young DJ has one last chance to blow the crowd of Coney’s new casino away with beats straight from the Brooklynite’s heart. Sebas, a young Brooklynite, is on the brink of homelessness while pursuing his DJ career in NYC. He’s given one last chance at the opening of Coney Island’s new casino to impress a crowd that couldn’t be more different than him.
The plan to construct a casino in Coney Island, a historically inexpensive and communal town, has driven me to make a film about the gentrification of New York City. While rebuilding in older, run-down neighborhoods can aid the community, native or transplant, I believe that rebuilding that takes place in New York has always served to price out those who live here. In particular, creatives struggle to make ends meet due to bigger corporations or groups of people who(frankly) leech off NYC spaces, profiting off the foundations creatives here have laid.
